La música de los Beatles ha estado conmigo desde siempre; los años pasan, pero su encanto no se opaca nunca. Era inevitable que en algún momento se colara en las historias que pergeñamos con Eduardo. En nuestra última serie, "Shankar", dedicamos varios capítulos a la niñez del protagonista. Es en ese período de su vida que el joven Shankar conoce a la Morsa (que una y otra vez asoma sus colmillos en mis páginas), agente del Servicio Secreto de la reina de Inglaterra Victoria III (¡!), y a sus compañeros, Miss Rigby, Max Silverhammer, Sgt. "P", Lucy Diamonds y Mr Nowhere, todos ellos basados en personajes de las canciones de los Fab Four. En las imágenes que siguen vemos a algunos de ellos y otros. En orden de aparición, Lucy ( en la estación de tren con los changadores de plastilina con sus cobartas de espejos, los diamantes en el cielo y las flores que crecen "tan alto"), Miss Rigby en su ventana mientras el padre McKenzie pasa como una exhalación, Mr Kite saltando por el aro de fuego mientras el caballo Henry baila el vals, la querida Prudence y el Tonto en la Colina, el Mirlo y Mr Nowhere.
Hace poco me enteré de la muerte del gran Heinz Edelmann, el brillante artista checo que diseñó los personajes y escenarios de la película animada "Submarino Amarillo", quizá una de las influencias estéticas más fuertes en mi formación artística. Estas páginas fueron realizadas antes de este triste episodio, pero cobran ahora un sentido más profundo para mí. En muchas de ellas está patente mi admiración por ese descomunal artista.
The Beatles' music has always been with me. The years go by, and its spell is never dulled. It was inevitable that sooner or later it would manifest itself in the stories Eduardo and I concoct. In our last series, "Shankar", we devoted several chapters to the protagonist's infancy. Young Shankar meets the Walrus (who is constantly haunting my pages), an agent of Her Majesty Victoria III' s (!) Secret Service, and his companions, the dastardly Miss Rigby, Max Silverhammer, Lucy Diamonds, Sgt. "P" and Mr Nowhere, all of them based on characters from the Fab Four's songs. They are featured in the following images, together with other Beatle creatures. The roll call: Lucy in the turnstile at the station, with its plasticine porters with looking-glass ties, a sky with diamonds and flowers growing incredibly high; Miss Rigby waiting at the window, while father MacKenzie rushes by; Mr Kite through his hoop of real fire, and Henry the Horse dancing the waltz; dear Prudence and the Fool on the Hill; the Blackbird; and last but not least, Mr Nowhere in his nowhere-land.
I recently learnt that the great Heinz Edelmann died. He was the brilliant Czech artist who designed the characters and sets of the animated film "Yellow Submarine", one of the main aesthetic influences in my artistic formation. These pages were made before that sad episode, and now take on a deeper relevance for me. You will notice in many of them the imprint of that extraordinary artist.

Our band of quaint spies (Mr Nowhere, Sgt. "P", Miss Rigby, Lucy Diamonds and Max Silverhammer) pretend to avoid the atention of my take on Edelmann's Blue Meanies.
Y, para terminar, tres versiones de "Helter Skelter", los grandes toboganes. En la segunda imagen, también hacen un cameo "la gente solitaria" de "Eleanor Rigby". En la tercera, todos los personajes que alegremente se deslizan por el "helter skelter" están tomados de la letra de "I Am the Walrus". Y ahora, lo sentimos pero tenemos que irnos.
